St Lawrence's Church (Lorenzkirche)
The Lorenzkirche is the great Gothic church in the southern part of Nuremberg's old town, dedicated to St Lawrence and now Lutheran. It was built in several stages: the basilica nave is High Gothic, from around 1250, and the Late Gothic hall choir was added between 1439 and 1477. Inside, hanging above the choir, is the Angelic Salutation (Engelsgruß) by Veit Stoss, a wooden carving of the Annunciation dated to around 1517-1518. Very close by is the Sakramentshaus (sacrament house), a stone tower of about 20 metres that Adam Kraft sculpted between 1493 and 1496. The church was damaged in 1943 and 1945 and the reconstruction lasted until 1952. It stands on Lorenzer Platz, next to the Königstraße, the street that links the station with the Hauptmarkt.
