Albrecht Dürer's House (Albrecht-Dürer-Haus)
The Albrecht-Dürer-Haus is the house where the painter and engraver Albrecht Dürer (1471-1528) lived and worked from 1509 until his death. It is a timber-framed town house built on two sandstone storeys around 1420 at the foot of the castle, next to the Tiergärtnertor gate, and one of the few in the old town to survive, though damaged, the bombing of the Second World War. Today it is a city museum with rooms that show the historic atmosphere of the home. Its spaces include a living workshop where historic printing techniques are explained, a graphic arts cabinet and the Dürer-Saal. Temporary exhibitions of graphic art are also held in its rooms. Tours are also offered with an actress who plays Agnes, Dürer's wife.
