Al Maaden Museum of Contemporary African Art, opened in 2016 in the Al Maaden district, south of the medina, thanks to the collection of the Alami Lazraq family. It exhibits painting, photography, sculpture and installation by artists from Africa and its diaspora, in a modern building with a sculpture garden. It is the first museum of its kind in Morocco and an alternative stop to the Marrakesh of palaces and mosques.
