Germanisches Nationalmuseum (German National Museum)
The Germanisches Nationalmuseum is the largest museum of German-language culture and art, in Nuremberg's old town. Founded in 1852, it occupies a complex of buildings raised around a former medieval Carthusian monastery, whose cloister and church form part of the visit. Its collections run from prehistory to the present day. Well-known pieces include Martin Behaim's terrestrial globe of 1492, inscribed in 2023 on UNESCO's Memory of the World register, and the mysterious Bronze Age Golden Cone of Ezelsdorf-Buch. At the main entrance stands the Way of Human Rights (Straße der Menschenrechte) by Dani Karavan. Several areas of the permanent exhibition are closed for refurbishment; the orientation plan on the website shows what can be seen today.
