Church of San Pedro
This is a Renaissance transitional church, founded in 1522 by the priest Esteban de Villalón and consecrated that same year. From 1564, the growing congregation made it necessary to enlarge it, and the work was finished in 1731. Its structure is massive, with sturdy piers, large columns, high rib vaults and round-arched windows that light the interior. Near the presbytery there is a period copy of a St Anthony of Padua by Ribera, and the paintings of the life of the Virgin are attributed to Juan Correa. The Brotherhood of the Blessed Sacrament preserves a collection of 18th-century cornucopia mirrors. In 1940, under the parish priest Clemente Blázquez Pareja-Obregón, reinforcement works were carried out and the low choir was removed to open up the central nave.
