Church of Santa María de Jesús
It stands on Plaza del Portichuelo and was built between 1527 and 1615 as the church of the convent of the Third Order Franciscans. It has undergone numerous alterations since. Its most notable part is the main chapel, dedicated to the Virgin of Succour, with an 18th-century camarín of very rich plasterwork; in October 2013 the restoration works on the roofs of the main chapel and the camarín were completed. The rest of the church holds sculptures such as the Jesús Nazareno and paintings such as The Veronica and The Adoration of the Shepherds. The Royal and Illustrious Archconfraternity of the Holy Cross in Jerusalem and Our Lady of Succour owns and looks after the building, and a large part of its processional items are displayed in the Museo de la Ciudad.
