Park Avenue
Park Avenue is a wide New York avenue running north–south through Manhattan, with a 140-foot-wide stretch north of 32nd Street. Its most distinctive feature is the landscaped median dividing the lanes, maintained by the Fund for Park Avenue and planted with begonias and other sun-tolerant species. Near Grand Central Terminal, the avenue rises onto a viaduct that runs around the building and passes through the Helmsley Building, offering unusual views of the surrounding cityscape. The section known as Park Avenue South, between 17th and 32nd Streets, is home to offices and banks, while the residential stretch through the Upper East Side contains some of the most expensive properties in the world. Since 1945, Christmas trees have been placed on the median every December as a memorial. The avenue is also home to corporations such as JPMorgan Chase, UBS, Citigroup and MetLife, and to the historic Waldorf-Astoria hotel.
