Picasso Tower
The Torre Picasso is a 157-metre office skyscraper in the AZCA complex, next to the Paseo de la Castellana. It was designed by the architect Minoru Yamasaki, designer of the Twin Towers in New York, with Jorge Mir Valls and Rafael Coll Pujol. Construction began in late 1982, was halted for a time until the ownership changed in 1985, and the building opened in December 1988. It was the tallest in Madrid until 2007, when it was surpassed by the Cuatro Torres. Its most recognisable feature is the large glazed arch at the entrance, reached by a walkway over a landscaped moat, and the white façade with vertical bands. Pontegadea, Amancio Ortega's investment company, bought it in 2011. It has no viewing platform or restaurant open to the public: it can be admired from Plaza de Pablo Ruiz Picasso and from around AZCA.
