Kamo River
NatureVisit: ~90 minFree
The Kamo River runs through Kyoto and its banks serve as a regular promenade for locals and visitors. Along the channel there are walking paths and some stepping stones for crossing the river; the water level is usually low, although in the rainy season the lower stretches can flood. In summer, restaurants open balconies facing the river. Its course is linked to the Kamigamo and Shimogamo shrines and to the Tadasu-no-mori forest, and in its history it features as the setting for the birth of kabuki.
