Fushimi Inari-taisha
CultureVisit: ~120 min
Principal Shinto shrine among the thousands of shrines dedicated to Inari, kami of rice and business, whose origins go back to the 8th century. At the foot of Mount Inari a path begins, covered by thousands of vermilion torii donated by merchants and companies, which climbs through the forest to the summit. Statues of foxes, messengers of Inari, guard the entrances and hold keys or stones in their mouths. It is in the south-east of Kyoto, next to Inari station.
