Museum of Photography
The Museum of Photography (Museum für Fotografie) is a German state museum in Berlin's Charlottenburg district, next to Zoologischer Garten railway station. It occupies a restored 1909 Neoclassical building, the former officers' casino (Kaisersaal), designed by Heino Schmieden and Julius Boethke. Opened on 3 June 2004, it is run by the Berlin Art Library (Kunstbibliothek) and houses its photography collection. It is also home to the Helmut Newton Foundation, which occupies the exhibition spaces on the ground and first floors. The museum functions as an exhibition venue and as a centre for photography research and documentation. Its exhibitions include rotating shows and the permanent display 'Helmut Newton's Private Property', featuring the photographer's personal belongings.
