Arcetri Astrophysical Observatory
In the hills of Arcetri, on the outskirts of Florence, this astrophysical observatory, part of INAF, preserves a historical and scientific complex open to visitors: the Amici telescope, the solar tower of about 25 metres opened in 1925 and an astronomical park with a scale model of the Solar System leading to the Amici telescope pavilion. Its outreach programme includes guided tours, astronomical observations and activities for schoolchildren; on daytime visits you can observe the solar photosphere and sunspots, while night-time activities allow you to observe stars and planets. The surroundings also have historical value for their proximity to Villa Il Gioiello, Galileo Galilei's final residence.
