Palazzo Pitti
A huge Renaissance palace begun around 1458 for the banker Luca Pitti and bought in 1549 by Eleonora of Toledo, wife of Cosimo I de' Medici, who made it the family's residence. It houses the Palatine Gallery, with works by Raphael, Titian and Rubens, the Royal Apartments, the Gallery of Modern Art and the Museum of Fashion and Costume. The Boboli Gardens extend behind it.
