Theatre at Währinger Straße 78, opened in 1898 as the imperial jubilee theatre and turned into the Volksoper in the early 20th century. It is Vienna's great stage for operettas, musicals and lighter repertoire works, in contrast to the State Opera. Its programme alternates classics of the genre with new productions.
