Vasari Corridor
The Vasari Corridor is an elevated passage of about a thousand metres that crosses Florence from the Palazzo Vecchio to the Palazzo Pitti, passing over the Uffizi Gallery and the Ponte Vecchio. Designed by Giorgio Vasari in 1565 so that Grand Duke Cosimo I could travel between his residences without mixing with the population, the route retains features such as the panoramic windows over the Arno on the Ponte Vecchio and an interior balcony over the church of Santa Felicita. In the section next to the Uffizi it houses a collection of artists' self-portraits begun in the 17th century. It can be visited Tuesday to Sunday with a supplement on the Uffizi Gallery ticket, and once the tour has begun you cannot return to the gallery.
