The great artificial lake of the Summer Palace, the imperial garden of the Qing, a World Heritage Site since 1998. The lake takes up a good part of the grounds and you walk around Longevity Hill, where pavilions and temples rise. Highlights include the Long Corridor, painted with thousands of scenes, the Marble Boat and the Seventeen-Arch Bridge. The Empress Dowager Cixi rebuilt it in the late 19th century.
