Mosque of Ibn Tulun
CultureVisit: ~60 min
Mosque built between 876 and 879 by Ahmad ibn Tulun, Abbasid governor of Egypt, and one of the oldest in Cairo to keep its original form. Its enormous colonnaded courtyard and its minaret with an external spiral ramp recall the Abbasid models of Samarra, in Iraq. In the centre of the courtyard stands a domed ablution fountain, added in the 13th century.
