Muhammad Ali Mosque (Citadel)
CultureVisit: ~75 min
Ottoman-style mosque built between 1830 and 1848 on the orders of Muhammad Ali inside Saladin's Citadel, on Mokattam hill. Its design is inspired by the great mosques of Istanbul: a central dome surrounded by semi-domes and two slender minarets. Clad in alabaster, it is called the “Alabaster Mosque” and dominates Cairo's skyline.
