Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore
Florence's cathedral, begun by Arnolfo di Cambio in 1296 and consecrated in 1436. Its dome, the work of Filippo Brunelleschi, remains one of the largest brick domes ever built. The exterior is clad in white, green and pink marble; inside, the fresco of the Last Judgement on the vault of the dome stands out. It stands in Piazza del Duomo, right in the historic centre.
