Fortified citadel in the south of the medina, founded by the Almohads in the 12th century as the seat of caliphal power. It preserves its reddish rammed-earth walls, its monumental gates and, inside, the Kasbah Mosque, the gardens and the Saadian Tombs complex. It is an inhabited district with quiet little streets, very different from the bustle of Jemaa el-Fnaa.
