Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain

The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fountain is a monument in London dedicated to Princess Diana. It is located in the south-west corner of Hyde Park, south of the Serpentine lake and east of the Serpentine Gallery. Designed by Gustafson Porter, the fountain takes the form of a large oval streambed roughly 50 by 80 metres, surrounded by lawn. It is built from 545 individual pieces of Cornish granite. Water flows from the top of the oval down two sides: one descends gently with ripples, while the other features steps, channels and curves, representing two facets of Diana's life. The fountain was officially opened on 6 July 2004 by Queen Elizabeth II. After slipping incidents, it was closed and reopened in August 2004 with fencing and attendants to stop people walking or running in the water. In December 2004, work began to improve drainage and surfaces. Visitors can walk alongside the fountain and watch the water flow in a landscaped setting.
