Fontana del Porcellino
CultureVisit: ~15 min
A bronze fountain of a boar, made by Pietro Tacca around 1633, a copy of a Roman marble original of Hellenistic inspiration kept in the Uffizi. It stands in the Loggia del Mercato Nuovo, the old silk market. By tradition, whoever rubs the animal's snout and drops a coin into its mouth so that it falls onto the grate will be sure to return to Florence.
