Berlin Philharmonic

The Berliner Philharmonie, on the southern edge of the Tiergarten and next to the Kulturforum near Potsdamer Platz, is the main home of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and consists of two halls: the Great Hall and the Chamber Music Hall. The building, asymmetrical and tent-shaped, houses a pentagonal main hall in which the stage sits at the centre with tiers of seating rising around it, a layout known as the vineyard style. The resident orchestra performs most of its subscription concerts in the Great Hall, which also hosts performances by other orchestras, chamber ensembles and choirs, while the Chamber Music Hall is used for smaller ensembles and recitals. The main hall has a large concert organ built by Schuke, and the acoustics allow voices and instruments to be heard clearly from every seat.
