Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fuensanta

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Fuensanta is a Baroque church in Algezares, in the Carrascoy mountains, which holds the image of Murcia's patron saint. Construction began in 1694 on the site of an old medieval hermitage, and inside it features the main altarpiece, mural paintings by Pedro Flores García in the dome and choir, and ten sculpted reliefs by Juan González Moreno in the side chapels. The façade, designed by Toribio Martínez de la Vega, has sculptures by Jaime Bort. The complex includes the Fuente Santa, the Neo-Moorish style Chapter House, and the monastery of the Benedictine nuns, connected by an archway. From its location, the Murcia lowlands and the Regional Park of Carrascoy y El Valle can be seen. It is a centre for pilgrimages, especially the one on the way back after the September Feria, and is listed as a Site of Cultural Interest.
