Mosque of Amr ibn al-As
CultureVisit: ~45 min
Founded around 641-642 by Amr ibn al-As after the Arab conquest, it was the first mosque in Egypt and one of the first in Africa. It stands in the old Fustat, in Old Cairo, and has been rebuilt and extended many times, so its present appearance is much later than the original. It is notable for its central courtyard surrounded by galleries with reused columns.
