Humayun's Tomb
Mausoleum of the second Mughal emperor, Humayun, built around 1570 on the commission of his widow Hamida Banu Begum and designed by the Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas. It is the first great garden-tomb in India, with a charbagh layout (a four-part garden), red sandstone, white marble and a double dome, and a direct forerunner of the Taj Mahal. It has been a World Heritage Site since 1993 and stands next to the Nizamuddin neighbourhood.
