Red Fort
Large red sandstone fortress-palace that the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had built between 1639 and 1648 when he founded his capital, Shahjahanabad. A World Heritage Site, it is entered through the Lahore Gate and you walk through the covered bazaar of Chhatta Chowk, the Diwan-i-Am (hall of public audiences) and the Diwan-i-Khas. From its ramparts the Indian prime minister delivers the Independence Day speech every 15 August.
