Orthodox cathedral on Nevsky Prospect, built between 1801 and 1811 to a design by Andrey Voronikhin. Its great semicircular colonnade, inspired by that of St Peter's in the Vatican, embraces an open square. It holds the icon of Our Lady of Kazan and the tomb of Field Marshal Kutuzov, the general who defeated Napoleon, whose captured banners hang inside.
