Saint Isaac's Cathedral
Orthodox cathedral designed by Auguste de Montferrand and built between 1818 and 1858, with one of the largest domes in Europe. Its façades are supported by monolithic columns of red granite and the interior is lined with marble, malachite and lapis lazuli. The dome is covered in gold and from the colonnade, about 43 metres up, you can see over the centre of Saint Petersburg.
