One of the seven pilgrimage churches of Rome, founded in the 4th century over part of the Sessorian Palace, linked to St Helena. It keeps relics of the Passion, including fragments attributed to the True Cross, in the Chapel of the Relics. The Baroque façade, of 1743, is by Domenico Gregorini and Pietro Passalacqua. It is near the Aurelian Walls and the Amphitheatrum Castrense.
