Zen temple of the Rinzai school, founded in 1202 by the monk Eisai and considered the oldest Zen temple in Kyoto. It is in the Gion district, very close to Hanamikoji Street, although its grounds are much quieter. On the ceiling of the Dharma Hall two large dragons are painted, created in 2002 for the 800th anniversary of its founding. It also has dry gardens and a small moss garden.
