Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul (Fortress)
Cathedral inside the Peter and Paul Fortress, founded in 1703 on Hare Island and the origin of the city. It was built by Domenico Trezzini between 1712 and 1733, and its golden spire, about 122 metres tall, was for a long time the tallest building in Saint Petersburg. It holds the tombs of almost all the Russian emperors since Peter I, including that of Nicholas II and his family, buried in 1998.
