Monument to Nicholas I
CultureVisit: ~15 minFree
Equestrian statue of Nicholas I unveiled in 1859 in St Isaac's Square, in front of the cathedral and next to the Mariinsky Palace. The project is by the architect Auguste de Montferrand and the sculpture by Peter Clodt. The horse is supported on only two points, the hind legs, a technical feat for a bronze statue of that size.
