Museum opened in 1977 in the diplomatic district of Chanakyapuri, devoted to the history of the Indian railways. Across almost ten hectares it displays steam and diesel locomotives, luxury carriages of maharajas and viceroys and the Fairy Queen locomotive, from 1855, considered the oldest in service in the world. It also offers simulators and a ride on a narrow-gauge train around the grounds. It is a visit much appreciated by families.
